February 1, 2022
Dear Friends,

We hope that you're as charged up about the new northern RAGBRAI route as we are! It has been our pleasure to visit with many of you over the past few days and exchange emails about your plans!

We didn't expect to be writing an update to you this morning, and we still intend to send another update yet this week regarding all of our shuttles and departure times. So please don't make those airline reservations until we can get that update into your hands! For now, a few topics including The Availability of PBV Services.

Saturday Morning Website Issue:
Resolved!

Saturday morning after the Friday route announcement, our little website quickly became overwhelmed, and our RAGBRAI riders had difficulty signing up for a short spell. Apologies to those who were inconvenienced, and thanks for your patience and persistence. That issue has been resolved, and we do think that registrations are slowing down now.

For those who had a payment issue on Saturday, it's important that you ultimately received a confirmation email. If you have not logged in again to check on your payment, or if you have not received the confirmation email, please reach out to us to learn your status. If the payment has not gone through, we'll ask you to try it again. We want to be sure we have you in our counts for services!

Also, after the busy weekend, we feel a sudden need to bring you up to speed on our availability.

Pork Availability
for RAGBRAI

The reason for the website issue was an inordinate number of registrations all at once! And that trend has continued throughout the last couple of days. We're glad that folks are registering, of course, but here is the status of our availability at this point in the season. Remember, please, that it's really early!

The Weeklong Support of PBV is half full (after only three days of accepting reservations). Still plenty of space, friends, but we think it's worth mentioning that on this service, we're about 250% ahead of last year at this time.

The optional Tent Service of PBV is 80% full as of this morning. If/when we do sell out, we will create a waiting list for this service. After we have seen our 2022 campsites, it's possible that we might expand the number of rental tents slightly.

And for any newcomers, the PHAT rooms on RAGBRAI are sold out, and the waiting list for that service is very long indeed. (You can certainly reserve a PHAT room on our trail rides and on many other rides).

We have space, plenty of it, on all of the PBV shuttles, before and after RAGBRAI. Please take your time making your travel plans before adding shuttles to your application.

We don't like to pressure anyone to sign up before they're ready. But needless to say, if you want to reserve the optional tent service of PBV, you should probably do it sooner rather than later.

Bringing Your Own Tent

Over half of the riders on our RAGBRAI charter elect to bring their own tents, rather than use our rental tent service. Of course, all of the amenities included in our Weeklong Support are provided for those who bring their own tents. We want you to know that, whether you sleep in your tent or ours, your experience with PBV will be the same--same entertainment on Pork Stage, same hearty dinners, same hot and private shower, same custom-built equipment, same friendly home base camp, and the same happy crew to serve you!

PBV provides a great deal of service in our campsites, making it pretty darn easy for those who bring their own tents to do their own set-up and take-down. Self-tenters will bring their bags to the baggage truck each morning. We'll carry your gear (a maximum of two bags per person) from town to town, and we'll have plenty of camping space for everyone. If you set up your own tent, you'll actually have more choices of where to camp than those on our fixed rental tent grid.

Possible--not sure yet--
LaCrosse Airport Shuttle
After RAGBRAI
We need your help, friends, to determine the demand for a shuttle to the LaCrosse airport from the end town of Lansing on the last day of RAGBRAI, Saturday, July 30.

If we decide to offer it, this shuttle would operate one time, and early--at 1:00 p.m. (On the last day of RAGBRAI, the cycling mileage is approximately 53 miles--subject to change.) We would run a coach and a bike truck about 35 miles from our staging area in Lansing to the regional airport in LaCrosse, WI, dropping you at the airport entrance (not an airport hotel parking lot).

You may have been considering or planning on shuttling with us to airports in Des Moines, to Quad Cities, or Omaha. But if you are certain that you would prefer to shuttle to LaCrosse, as we have described here, please write to tammy@pkbelly.comWe will let you know soon whether we will make this an option at the end of RAGBRAI 2022.

Like all of our shuttles, this one would be available to anyone on RAGBRAI, not just to folks who are with us during the week.

Possible Change In the
Midweek Half-Hog Shuttles
of Pork Belly Ventures

For those who want to exit RAGBRAI midweek or enter RAGBRAI midweek, we operate our Half-Hog Shuttles, normally on Tuesday afternoon.

For the first time, it's likely that we will offer those shuttles on Wednesday afternoon instead. This would give riders the option of exiting after riding the first four days of RAGBRAI (Sunday through Wednesday), or the option of entering RAGBRAI to ride the last three days (Thursday through Saturday). We are waiting for more information. Please don't reserve the Half Hog Shuttles until we have published complete information to you in our next update.

[And you don't HAVE to use our midweek Half-Hog shuttles in order to pro-rate your week. If you have your own transportation to and from RAGBRAI overnight towns, then you can ride any number of consecutive RAGBRAI days with PBV. Just select our Partial-Week Support and choose the days you will ride!]
Did You Miss
the PBV RAGBRAI Invitation?
Here it is, folks, in a new format with a price list up front, followed by descriptions of our services and answers to frequently asked questions--and a lot of fun Pork Camp photos!

Pete and I offer our warmest thanks to you, the many riders who have signed up (earlier than usual) to join us on RAGBRAI this year! We are inspired by your confidence and excited to keep planning for our favorite week of the year!

All our best wishes,

Tammy and Pete
